BEVERAGE GARDEN: Ryan Brehmer 712-631-0702 / Ashley Reed 712-240-0515
Organizes and staffs the beverage garden in the community.
BUDGET: Roxann Swanson 712-363-2107 / Sheri Tewes 712-928-2240
Set up a budget as soon as possible and handle all funds for the community. Coordinate
fundraisers and getting donations from businesses.
COMMUNITY CLEAN-UP: _____________________________________________
Coordinates and provides support for community clean-up after the 3:30 P.M. shut-down time.
COMMUNICATIONS/PUBLICITY: Crystal VanRavenswaay 712-928-2240 /__________________
Coordinates all communication during RAGBRAI. Will work closely with all organizing committees,
law enforcement and public safety officials. Coordinate release of information to the media to
generate local interest in hosting RAGBRAI.
ELECTRICAL: City of Hartley 712-928-2240
Electric service is very important for entertainment, food and beverage service. Persons on this
committee should have an electrical background.
ENTERTAINMENT/SPECIAL EVENTS: _____________________________________________
Coordinates all entertainment – examples, special rider involvement contests to live bands to a DJ
during the RAGBRAI visit.
HOSPITALITY: ________________________________________________
Coordinates the welcome and farewell for the riders of RAGBRAI. Helps promote the community
theme and organize the development and sale of T-shirts and other memorabilia using the town’s
theme. Coordinate beautification of the community. Works closely with the
Communications/Publicity Committee
INFORMATION CENTER: Lion’s Club – Dan McCarty – 712-348-2970
Coordinates a designated Information Center for people to get information and ask questions
about the community. All inquiries should be able to be handled by this center. Place the
information center so riders see it as they come in town.
LAW ENFORCEMENT: Joel Hengeveld / Police Department 712-928-2240
Enforces all Iowa laws, responsible for beverage establishment security, and hires additional
officers if necessary. A uniformed officer should be on duty at all times. Devises and implements
traffic plans for both bikes and vehicles in town.
MEDICAL: Rodney Ahrenstorff 712-260-3189 / ____________________________
First Responders / EMTs – setup a First Aid Station. Organizes, recruits, schedules, and supplies
medical teams to serve the bike riders and community.
PARKING:______________________________________________
Coordinates and provides Support Vehicle parking services at the CFE Parking Lot. Coordinate
golf carts to provide riders with rides to and from their Support Vehicle.

Coordinates traffic control, parking, civil defense, street conditions and repair and other safety
issues. Written Emergency Operations Plan and severe weather plan – forward to RAGBRAI office
by June 1.
RIDE RIGHT: _____________________________________________
Conduct safety seminars for young and old residents and promote the RIDE RIGHT message the
day of RAGBRAI. Member of local and area bike club or people who have ridden RAGBRAI before
are usually very helpful accomplishing these goals.
RISK MANAGEMENT: Marcus Treimer 712-363-5105 / ________________________
Analyze the risks that we face hosting RAGBRAI and decide how we want to handle each one of
them – avoid the risk, transfer the risk or assume the risk and minimize the size of the loss.
SIGNAGE: _________________________________________
Signs coming into, through and out of town – directional, informational. Post safety signs
throughout town weeks before RAGBRAI so bicycle safety becomes a habit for bicycle riders and
for vehicle drivers before RAGBRAI comes to town (RIDE RIGHT). Use tall signs over the water
coming into town and leaving town. Keep all other signs along roads at eye level. Signage to the
Bike Shops.
SANITATION, TOILETS & RECYCLING: _____________________________________________
Coordinate trash and recycling collection: trash receptacles, dumpsters and recycle containers.
Location and servicing of portable toilets and hand wash stations for the town.
VENDOR COMMITTEE: ________________________________________________
Coordinates all vendors and field requests from individuals and organizations wanting to sell
products and services. Keep everything within City limits. Works with RAGBRAI and local
authorities to keep renegade vendors outside the community. Adheres to all rules and regulations
of the State of Iowa Department of Inspection and Appeals and the local extension offices. (This
will include the distribution of ice to all vendors, Beverage Garden and possible RAGBRAI
participants)

Ragbrai LII webpage on the City webpage to help promote RAGBRAI LII. Responsible for
developing and maintaining the community website and working with the
Communication/Publicity Committee.
